Fun traditions that have grown over the years

Christmas was always a fun and exciting time in our family.  One tradition that continues to this day with my sibling's children is Christmas Eve pajamas.  After Christmas Eve dinner, we'd all get a bath and by the time we were done, Santa had left a special gift for each of us under the tree.  Everyone received Christmas pjs and usually all 6 girls in my family got matching ones.  Who knows what the 3 boys got!

And on Christmas morning to get a little extra shut-eye, our parents would let us open our stockings before they came down to the tree.  It was so exciting, even though we usually only got socks, underwear, toothbrushes and CANDY!!!

Nowadays, the kids still get Christmas Eve pajamas (one person usually gets the pjs for all the kids in each of the families so they can match!), but even us sisters still get matching pjs.  I actually have only 1 pair of non-xmas pjs.

After everyone has their pjs on, we sit in the living room with a roaring fire, hot chocolate and cookies and we all take turns reading a page from that year's Christmas book.  It's especially fun to see how the kids improve each year-- first needing help with the reading, and emerging into very expressive story tellers.  Then it's off to bed for the kids so that Santa can slide down the chimney to drop off the rest of the gifts.

It's cute how the kids look forward to the traditions each year, but we have to be careful.... as soon as we do something new once, the kids want to claim it as a "tradition" each year thereafter.

Most of all, it's the tradtion of sharing this special time of year with the ones we love.

Wishing all of you a bright and beautiful season!
